Adelaide Choi

Player Name

Corporal Adelaide Choi

Former USMC Combat Engineer

The SEED Artefact: A powerful magical amplifier and source designed by and for the use of the Fae, but now currently fused onto the body of Adelaide, granting her its power. However, Adelaide's ability to use the SEED is limited by her inexperience and her limitations as a relatively normal human being.

  • Telekinetic Field: For an Action Point, Adelaide creates a field of energy that can hamper physical and mental attacks. Allies in this field gain +1 to Physical and Mental Defense for 1d3 turns.
  • Mind Fray: Adelaide can reach out to another being's mind and cause different effects depending on where she touches. At no cost, she can roll Magic (SEED) against a target's Mental Defense to cause Body damage. For an Action Point, she rolls Magic (SEED) against Mental Defense to lower their next offensive skill roll by 2. For two Action Points, she rolls Magic (SEED) against Mental Defense to directly damage the target's Mind. She also rolls a 1d3. On a 3 the target is incapacitated for one round.

Neat Parlour Trick: Adelaide is not used to her newly acquired magical skill, and thus tends to rely more on magical brute force to make spells work rather than refined skill. While this can make her spells incredibly powerful, it also wears her out quite quickly and makes delicate spellwork very difficult.
Lady of War: In combat, Adelaide is very aggressive, and in her day-to-day interactions this manifests as extreme stubbornness when she feels inclined to hold her ground. However, she can have difficulty giving up and fold her cards when necessary: If she really believes in something, she'll fight to the bloody end.
Short Stack: Adelaide is a very little person. She can squeeze into small spaces that adults her age would not be able to fit in. Being small can also be helpful avoiding strikes in close combat.

Personal History

Adelaide was born an only child in Madison, Wisconsin to Korean immigrants at July 24th, 1986. During grade school, Adelaide excelled, learning Korean and French and taking AP classes in high school. However, as she grew older and matured, became increasingly dissatisfied with her sheltered life and wanted to discover herself and the world around her, leading to her enlistment, to the surprise of her parents and friends. Adelaide enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after she graduated high school. After her basic training and MOS school, she was deployed to Iraq in 2004 as MOS 1371 - Combat Engineer, and eventually was involved in the Lioness program. Adelaide ended up having the fortune to serve two combat deployments there, and achieved the rank of Corporal. After her enlistment, she took advantage of the Post-9/11 G.I. Bill and attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison to obtain her degree in International Studies, until Shit Hit The Fan.

Using the knowledge of zombie apocalypse scenarios she had cooked up during idle periods of her enlistment… but mostly due to dumb luck, she managed to survive the initial Event. At one point, she aided an Unseelie lord on a small task, and although she forgot about the event, the lord did not. The Seelie court had a powerful weapon, the SEED Artefact, that threatened the balance of power between the two courts. Unwilling for Summer to hold such a powerful device, the faerie noble and his cronies swiped the Artefact and ran off with it. In retaliation, the Summer court sent soldiers from its army after the noble and his associates. Panicked and hunted, he remembered the young mortal woman that so randomly aided him, and decided to gift the SEED to her. Adelaide accepted the gift; when she examined her present more closely, the SEED suddenly activated, "germinating" and integrating itself into her body.

The Seelie Court did catch up to Adelaide, and discovered what had happened. Intrigued at this new development, they tried to trick her into bondage, so they could both exploit the SEED and treat her as a sort of pet. However, Adelaide managed to outsmart them in their games and Glamour by pure stubbornness and audacity, long enough to strike a deal with the original Winter noble: If he took her away from the decadent court games of the Sidhe, and used his influence as a high-ranking noble to make sure they would not go after her, she would in turn keep the SEED Artefact from the hands of both Sidhe courts and their enemies. Reluctantly, he agreed. However, Adelaide was unable to stay in Wisconsin, and after quickly gathering her things, the Winter noble spirited her away to New Zealand.

Adelaide is a diminutive woman of Korean ethnicity. She is 5'1" and still appears to have baby fat on her face, giving her a childishly adorable face that is most noticeable when she smiles. Adelaide has a short and stocky figure with black hair that reaches past her shoulders, dark brown, large eyes. She usually wears a gray knitted cardigan vest on top of a turtleneck shirt, cargo pants and combat boots, along with any combat gear she can scavenge. When it's cold, she wears a bulky, colorful sweater and an old fashioned dark blue coat that goes to her knees. Adelaide generally tries to hide the SEED Artefact through long sleeves, high collars and gloves to prevent uncomfortable questions.

The SEED appears to be a twisted mass of thick, golden metallic wires that resemble vines or branches. The wires are engraved with delicate designs and runes. The SEED wraps around her left leg from the knee, torso, right arm up to her hand, and the back of her head. Strands of metal randomly thread into her flesh and bone, with some of the SEED visibly fused and twisted into her spine. Despite this, the metal doesn't inhibit her movements, and Adelaide is not in pain. The Artefact cannot be removed, at least by conventional means.

Due to the SEED's Fae origin, Adelaide, while the SEED is attached to her body, has a slight aversion cold iron. Adelaide is also mildly ADHD, being inattentive and impulsive. She is unable to sit down for long periods of time when occupied with a particularly interesting thought, and has a tendency to talk too much.

It's called a SEED because that's what it looks like when it's in its neutral state.
