Advanced Learning Intelligence Capable of Evolution and Language (A.L.I.C.E.L.)

Artificial Engineer

Kinship: Given a full hour (or an action point for at-a-glance) with any electronic device, Alicel will gather enough knowledge of the device to use any part of the device in a way the part wasn't specifically used for, so long as it is feasible. This is because he, being made of technology and knowing how he works, is able to accurately deduce how similar objects work in other devices. At the cost of an action point, Alicel can add +3 to his engineering(any) rolls.

Studied Hard and Said no to Hacks: Alicel is able to record vast amounts of information to spit it out later. He can take any text (so long as he can recognize the language) and 'read' it so that it is stored for future use. This doesn't mean he understands what he is reading, just that he can absorb and spit out lines of text as ordered. Currently he has a few guides to basic electronics, a fashion magazine, a couple copies of the local newspaper, and a few intro textbooks (geography, psychology, chemistry, agriculture).
Uncanny Valley: Alicel can and, if necessary, will take a plunge into uncanny valley. This makes him generally a lot creepier to be around, depending on how used the person is to him. (May be compelled if Alicel is forced to take enough physical damage.)
Mechanical: Alicel lacks flesh and bone, replaced with a protective shell and metal. He can't heal through time and doesn't take injuries well. Despite being unable to taste, smell or feel beyond pressure, temperature, and damage, he is able to work with the senses he has to compensate. He doesn't need oxygen, food, or sleep but he does need a power source, maintenance, and time to process the world.
Not a Mother: Alicel is uncomfortable around birds, all birds, anything to do with birds. This is especially for chicks, eggs, and nests but anything even vaguely related to birds will cause an instant reaction.

  • Alicel's hands are toolkits, though usually covered by gloves so they are not seen, as they have no fake skin.
  • He also carries with him solar panels that are on his back and arms, used mainly to charge his battery.
  • His left collarbone houses a very thin knife for more desperate measures.
  • Alicel comes equipped with knives. Knives on knives. From raiding people's kitchens and homes on a campus where everyone is gone, there are a lot of pointy things he has equipped into his body. Through the use of pulleys, hinges, and other similar equipment, he has hashed together a couple extra limbs that are both lined by and can wield various knives. These extra limbs aren't usually seen and are normally underneath the opaque, fake skin on his arms and legs. They can unfold in a moment's notice and launch a knife towards an object or provide an extra slash to his punch. He usually chooses the former, as to both dish out damage and prevent damage to himself.
  • Alicel now has a hunting boomerang to use for a little more blunt force in his throws.
  • Alicel also comes equipped with a radio wired into his right arm.

Personal History

Alicel was really meant to be some professor's magnus opus, nothing more. Built out of purely artificial hardware and programmed to learn, react, and have emotions; he is essentially no different from any real human, just that he is a robot. However, he was given a few 'augmentations', in the form of his hands, his solar panels, and a greater defense against physical attacks. Alicel only had one goal in mind as soon as he was wired to be able to have goals- to have an actual human relationship. Fascinated with human relationships, he constantly watched movies as his creator worked on his body, deciding for himself he would go out into the world and strike up a relationship, like in the movies. However, the only humans that saw him amounted only to his professor, who kept him locked in secret until he was ready. The whole time, his professor treated him not as a human, but as a robot. This being the only human he knew, he quickly applies this to the 'outside world'.

After a time, he eventually gave up on his hope to have a decent human relationship. He chose instead to try and reject the more human aspects of him, emotion, faith, hope. They were useless if no one treated you like you had them.

It was only a day or so after he was complete that… something happened. Something happened one day. He wasn't sure what, being cooped up in a room. There was no noise outside, though his internal clock said it was day, and a weekday to boot. His professor was nowhere to be found. Curiosity struck him and he set out to figure out what may have happened.

Alicel used to be able to go weeks without needing to soak up the sun. Now it is only a few days. He knows he is beginning to wear down. This frightens him, but he refuses to show his fear- not that any human would honestly care. He is dying and he knows it.

  • Alicel looks a bit like a moving doll, though his skin isn't porcelain, it doesn't have the dynamic movement of a normal person's skin. His face, arms, and legs are the only places that have this fake skin. Everything else is usually encased in a clear skin to show off his inner wiring.
  • Alicel is actually a girl's name. He doesn't see the point in renaming himself so he just goes by what his professor called him.
